My 2-year-old loves a couple of picture books (which I've borrowed) that have indigenous themes (even if they're a bit too complex for him to really understand yet, he loves the pics anyway!!). This is something I'd love to pursue more with him. so I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for more of these types of picture books. I'd especially love to get my hands on some indigenous tales from the SE Qld area, if anyone knows of any??
The books I have already are one about the (six indigenous) seasons in Kakadu, and the other one is called Home of the Kandimakara People, also northern Australian in origin.
Any more suggestions for these types of book?
Thanks!!

The book listed below is from WA, but it is a book my girls love. It includes a photo of the girl who painted the illustrations. (There are others in the series, too.)

How the Birds Got their Colours: An Aboriginal Story
Albert, Mary/ Lofts, Pamela
Publisher: Scholastic Press
ISBN-10: 1865046248
ISBN-13: 9781865046242

Australian Picture Books
"Would you like to hear a story from long ago? My mother used to tell me lots of stories, but this story I loved the best, because I loved the birds." - Mary Albert, Bardi tribe, Western Australia.

We recently borrowed 'A is for Aunty' by Elaine Russell (from northern NSW) from the library and they enjoyed that too.
