In Brisbane we stayed with Linn. The kids played with chooks and learnt all about them and permaculture etc. School kids are learning about Potato farming :imateapot Why not teach them to GROW potatoes?????

Tonight Stylish and Spikee and Lisa's kids are trotting about hunting for lizards and geckos. I could list the things they're learning but I intend to sleep tonight. What are school kids learning? Sigh.

I can tell you now that as a kid I learnt WAY more from living life than from school. At school I learned how to do activities the way the teacher wanted, how to cram for exams, how to fudge assignments... essentially I learnt how to 'play the game'. I still only ever retained information that I personally found interesting, everything else is long forgotten.

On the other hand, I learned heaps from playing with my brothers, friends and local kids; doing stuff with my dad like cubbies, camping, billy carts, blackberry picking; from my mum who mainly directed me to resources and encouraged me to seek my own answers; I'd go riding around my suburb, climbed the local mountain (learnt to identify different animals, tracks, droppings, etc), we'd hang out at the Murrumbidgee River in the summer, go yabbying in the lake; on the holidays we'd go to the snow or to Qld or to our holiday house at Ulladulla. Life was WAY more fun and interesting :D
