What a great idea for a homeschooling meet-up! One of our members organised a hall, people brought things to take apart and things to take them apart with. We were lucky enough ( poor DH) that he was off work today with a honking cold, so we convinced him to come with us and facilitate the dissection of an old laptop. Since he's a computer geek it was awesome to have him there to explain what every layer was and what it did.

I though it was a bit sad that the group was heavily weighted with boys *sigh* B loved taking the laptop apart, and there were two other, older girls enthusiastically demolishing all kinds of things, but with the exception of some younger siblings who didn't seem that interested, that was it for the girls, with about 15 boys. It brought out some more dads who don't usually make it to meet-ups, too. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised at the gender imbalance, but I was, a little...

We do this all the time with things we find in the council clean up. Our girls both have their own little tool kits but there is a fair amount of smashing things open as there is using the tools.. It's great fun and I've learned lots too. Sam

I love this idea. Have you made it a regular gig, Beatrice?
