The article is here. (http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24248913-29277,00.html)

I saw this on a morning show this morning. How sad, gymnastic stuff was one of my faaavourite things to do at school in lunch breaks, we'd get out the blue softfall mats and do cartwheels, head & handstands, somersaults etc. Lots of fun. I know soccer has been banned in other schools, and even handball. Another reason for home ed.. our kids can cartwheel and play ball to their heart's content!

Of course the link to the other schooling story on the page made me shudder a lot more....

Police investigate paedophile ring at St StanislausBy Gemma Jones

POLICE are investigating claims that up to 40 boys were sexually abused over a seven-year period by a paedophile ring comprising priests and teachers at an exclusive private school in Bathurst, in central west NSW.

The walls of St Stanislaus college have housed budding Wallabies players and the bravest of war correspondents but an unimaginable secret has been stored for more than 20 years.

Fuck's sake at both stories :disbelief Re cartwheels, my friends and I would spend our lunchtimes perfecting our self-taught gymnastics. We taught each other how to do running forward hand springs, or arching backwards from standing. We got bruises from it, but it was hella fun and sooooo rewarding because we learnt it ourselves, not made to from our teachers.

I only just caught that on tellie, too Janet, how awful! One teacher has been arrested apparently and 2 are under investigation? If anyone needs a list of reasons to avoid school, hope you have you have your pen and paper handy to add these two gems. *grimace*

So one one hand, we have an apparent obesity epidemic, but then on the other, they're going to ban kids from physical activities that may be 'risky'??? Stooooooopid eeeeeeedjits!!!

That's institutional logic for you gemi ny : ) I see this form of institutional logic everywhere, governments, hospitals, schools, Centrelink!
