Share your anecdotes!

Kira has not been schooled, but she did attend FDC for 1.5 years (from 2.5 - almost 4). She only went 1, then 2, then 3, then 2, then 1 part days a week (LOL) but we're still dealing with the effects of it.

Today she put her tiger in timeout (she watched the other kids get put in timeout a lot, but from what she's told me she got put in timeout once only). We chatted about it. I asked why she had put tiger in timeout, it was because "tiger was not being nice". I decided to leave that one for another time, and focussed on timeout. I asked her if she thought Tiger would be happy after being in timeout.

"No, she will be sad".
I then asked if she thought Tiger would do what she wanted if Tiger was sad.
"No, it will just make her sad".
So I asked if she thought timeout was a good idea then. (Ignoring the "good idea" LOL)
"Not really, I have to go give her a cuddle".

I am just amazed that she still uses timeout after not going to FDC since we moved! they have to deschool from TV even, I've found...

Such a great idea for a thread. I'm sure there are a number of families who struggle with deschooling older children. From what I understand it gets tough before it gets better, but not many realise that and send their kids back to school :( Perhaps we could turn this into a support thread?

It never really got that hard for us, although it wasn't a stroll in the park either. Most days were ok but like any new changes in your life, leaving school can cause grieving.

I'm having some grief atm for my self ... and this is really dumb, but I'm sad that I'll never get to see the end of primary school parade thingee for my big baby. Silly? yep, but it feels sad nonetheless.

Our "school" experience was just preschool but DS utterly rejected the idea of having to sit in a circle to hear a story :lol so I think it was just such a relief to him not to have to go there anymore. Funnily enough I think he's needed more deschooling from being babysat by his grandparents! He has just stopped telling me that I'm taking the top of his boiled egg off the wrong way because I don't do it like Grandma does.
