View Full Version : Finger knitting
While reading my new book The Creative Family by Soulemama (http://www.soulemama.com/soulemama/), I came across the instructions on finger knitting which sounds like lots of fun for kiddies! She does it on one finger making a one-row chain, but I just found this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3LKAlDz9ig) that shows how to use all your fingers to make a wider piece.
And here is an example of single finger knitting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ukywxy19Gk8), and they also do a double finger-knit and then turn the chain into a flower - pretty cool idea! :D

very timely :) I was just telling Auds about finger knitting last night, thinking we might try some together when we have a quiet moment... she woke up today and asked me to show her thumb sewing :rofl

finger knitting is great fun and all so quick, if you want something really funky try using a few different coloured yarns at the same time, it looks great
I was wondering how if you could use different colours, how would you do it?

My mother bought me a toy for what was called "French knitting" when I was very little. It was a tube with 4 prongs on the top and you move around lifting each loop over the prong and winding on more wool to make a groovy chain. You can do the same thing with a sewing reel and four nails. I did finger knitting as well. When she showed me how to crochet and knit it was easier after doing those because I already understood about tension and yarn. Lots of fun!

We did the french knitting in grade 2 with a toilet roll holder and 4 paddle pop sticks. Can't remember what we did with it after?

I have one of those thingys made with an old cotton reel. It's loaded with a long, long 'knit' I started when I was about nine!

What a lovely thing to have. :)
I went to dinner at a friend's place last night and I showed her daughters and another friend's son how to finger-knit and it was a big hit! They were making bracelets, anklets and belts. Then they chopped off bits of string and started doing Cat's Cradle tricks :lol
