Hi, everyone!

I need help here. Dd has been awake most of the night with worms. She was the night before, too, but she did not want me to look at her bottom to see whether she had something there. After a lot of convincing, she let me look last night and I saw thin white little worms, about 10mm long, crawling out of her bottom. We pulled out like 30 in the course of the night, with poor little dd hardly sleeping due to being itchy.

I have been trying to find info on what worms they are and I think they are pinworms. I've read that as basic diet treatment, raw pumpkin seeds keel worms. Also, avoiding sugar, since it lowers immunity.

Any experience and/or advise on these little creatures and any natural remedies??!

Thanks!

Pumpkin seeds with grated carrot and as much raw garlic as possible orally. Definitely cut the sugar. A diet as raw and unprocessed as possible, and a clove/small piece of garlic topically.

Oh, and homeobotanicals have a worm remedy. Never used it but had great success with them for other things...

Poor thing! Wormwood is the herb I know of for worms, you can get it in a liquid form, but it tastes DISGUSTING!! Have to put it in juice or something, but it is still gross. I have found it to work tho. When my kids have been really intchy etc in the night I've wiped them with a nice warm washer (or put em in the bath if they'll be in it) and then apply paw paw ointment, which seems to settle them down. Good luck!

Oh, wow, thanks, valleymama and TABSP! I'll sure do.

So you can even apply garlic topically... Interesting and it makes sense. When, at night or at any time? I don't know about raw garlic orally with a 3 yo, though. I'll try anyway.

I'd second everything said, and really say go the pawpaw ointment or lanolin around the anus, helps keep the itching at bay. Good hand/nail hygiene is also important. Keep nails clean and out of mouths. C has a cute book ( called Dr Dog) and it has a phrase 'dont scratch your bum and suck your thumb

A therapeutic quality, Eucalyptus essential oil (not the stuff that says Pure Eucalyptus Oil from the supermarket....it's actually not pure and not essential oil). Place 10 drops in a bath waist deep, very warm water. Get your DD to sit in there for at least 20 minutes as that's how long it takes for essential oils to be systemically absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. Eucalyptus ( you can also use teatree but eucalyotus is better) kills worms and their eggs. Every member of the family needs to be treated. Not good for pregnancy though.

Check first with your dd if she likes the smell and that it doesn't cause any kind of reaction. Don't put it on the skin undiluted.

Hi, artymama. Thanks for the advice. I haven't got any of the pure eucalyptus oil that you mention, and I've just run out of tea tree! Not so easy to find these things here, but not impossible, so I'll try and find them.

I think that with the combination of all the things everyone's told me, we have a very good chance of getting rid of the little infesters.

Dh wanted to use conventional medication, and I was sooo not into it. So I really appreciate all this info.

Get DH to read up on the implications of the contents of conventional medication for worms ~ he'll soon change his mind: it's pretty full on nasty stuff.

I have to admit, we have used Combantrin a couple of times. We tried using Rainbow Herbals worming herbs but dd2 outright refused to swallow them or even open her mouth. This was before I knew of the above. Unfortunately I have an allergy to one component of most essential oils so I can't use the eucalyptus oil. I discovered that while having a deworm bath! I will stick with the eucalypt bath for the girls and take those 'yummy' herbs for myself. Blargh!!

He's actually not hard to convince in the slightest (he is actually aware of the fact that modern medicines normally have heaps of side effects and really dislikes them). I think he just got very worried about his little girl last night and he wanted a remedy straight away. He soon came around when I told him I would ask in the forum today. I think it was a strong defensive reaction more than anything, and he was just after a solution...

Also, you can take essential oils internally, but need to really look into the research yourself about dosage etc. It's 'illegal' in australia, but many places around the world take essential oils internally.

Hi, arty! Thanks for asking!! They are getting much better. Rather than pulling out 50 a night, we are down to 7 or 8. It looks like what we are doing is working. I still find dead worms in her undies in the morning, but she is not waking up at night any more, so it must be getting better. We've also explained to her how you ctah worms, that the mummies go and have their babies on her bottom, and that then she'll swallow them if she scartches and sucks her fingers. It amazes me that she does not scratch at all, and whe her bottom gets itchy at night, she tells me to pull her worms out, but she will not touch.

The whole family is getting the teartment. Wormwood does not taste very good, but I am mixing it with a little juice for her.

I have calmed down lots and feel comfortable and happy that everything is back on track, and without having had to put that nasty pesticide inside dd's little body!!! Boy, am I happy about that.

Big thank you to all for advice + support!

P.S. What does "no pun intended" mean?

Thats' great news!!! I'd be totally grossed out and not want to touch them either. I think I'll have to try Wormwood in the future (I've never heard of it before this thread).
So glad you are feeling calmer and happier

For the "no pun intended" it was a little funny.. it means an unintentional joke. Pass worms.. I hope it passes. get? get?

Right, I get the passing thing now.
However, I still don't know what the expression "no pun intended" means. I've seen it in other posts, too, and couln't get the meaning, either. Is it one of those abbreviations (for pun, I mean), or something else which I am totally mising? (Keep in mind that English is not my first language. )

Yeah, pun is another word for joke. Not sure if it has another root........ from Wikipedia! Oh, and I had no idea english wasnt your 1st language!

Pun
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For other uses, see Pun (disambiguation).
A pun (or paronomasia) is a phrase that deliberately exploits confusion between similar-sounding words for humorous or rhetorical effect.

A pun may also cause confusion between two senses of the same written or spoken word, due to homophony, homography, homonymy, polysemy, or metaphorical usage. Walter Redfern has said: "To pun is to treat homonyms as synonyms".[1] For example, in the phrase, "There is nothing punny about bad puns", the pun takes place in the deliberate confusion of the implied word "funny" by the substitution of the word "punny", a heterophone of "funny". By definition, puns must be deliberate; an involuntary substitution of similar words is called a malapropism.

Puns are a form of word play, and occur in all languages.

Thank you, artemis! That clarifies things... Lots, actually.

No, English is not my first language. I am Spanish and have lived most of my life in Spain (except for 4 years in Australia). I take what you say as a compliment! Thank you!!

Thanks for reposting this. I was actually having a discussion the other day about worms and the only thing I could think of was wormwood. Good to know about the garlic and essential oils too. For what it's worth I find the easiest way to get garlic into my breatharean child is to make my own hommous and put plenty in there.
