A group of six-year-olds have been suspended from a Melbourne primary school for bashing an older student.
The victim, a Year Four student from Heidelberg Primary School, was taken to hospital with head injuries after the four school students wrestled him to the ground, radio station 3AW reports.
Assistant regional director Bruce Armstrong said the students continued to bash the boy as he lay injured on the ground.
"Four prep school students were involved with a middle school student and I think they wrestled him to the ground," he told 3AW.
"He might have hit his head and there was subsequent fighting."
He said it was a "rare and isolated" incident and would not specify how long the students had been suspended for.
"I think it's important that they are integrated back into the life of the school where they can learn about what the appropriate behaviour is," he said.
