School sex abuse: new charge

A former assistant dormitory master at a Bathurst school has become the fifth man charged over the alleged sexual assault of students three decades ago.

The 47-year-old has been charged with indecently assaulting a former student on two separate occasions in 1985.

He was arrested today after going to Bathurst police station with a solicitor and charged with two counts of indecently assaulting a male under 16 years of age.

Police said the man was an assistant dormitory master at the time of the alleged offences.

Strike Force Belle is investigating a raft of sexual abuse allegations against former staff members at Catholic boys school St Stanislaus' College and Anglican college All Saints.

Police have laid another 128 charges against four other former staff members, including former school chaplain Brian Spillane and three other men, who were arrested in September.

Police would not say at which school the 47-year-old worked.

He was bailed to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on December 19.

Two more arrests over 'pupil sex assaults'

Police arrested two more men this morning in relation to sexual assaults of students at Bathurst schools more than two decades ago.

Strike Force Belle - formed to investigate complaints brought by former students at the Vincentian school St Stanislaus' College and the Anglican college All Saints - have now arrested seven men since August.

The two men are aged 60 and 61 and were arrested at separate properties in Marsfield.

A police spokeswoman was unable to say whether they were arrested at the Vincentian Dormitories in Marsfield.

The men were taken to Ryde police station where they are being questioned.

A former St Stanislaus' dormitory master was charged yesterday with the indecent assault of a 16-year-old boy on two separate occasions in 1985.

Three other former St Stanislaus' employees - a former principal, a chaplain and a bursar - have been charged with a number of child sex offences and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Friday.

A 63-year-old former lay teacher at All Saints College was charged with three counts of indecent assault in September.

Geesche Jacobsen reports: The strike force is investigating incidents against 16 alleged victims - aged between 10 and 15, said to have occurred over 30 years.

The strike force's commander, Superintendent Mick Goodwin, confirmed that two men, believed to be former teachers at the school, were arrested today and are expected to be charged this afternoon.

The incidents being investigated are alleged to have occurred between 1963 and 1992.

The allegations of indecent assault have similarities, he said, and the alleged perpetrators were said to have worked at the school together at the same time.

Police have interviewed more than 100 people both locally and overseas.

In recent days police seized computer equipment at the school and today executed two search at private homes.

"The investigation is probably one of the most significant investigations of its kind, due to the extended period and the nature of the offences," he said.

He said it was a complex investigation and detectives have been tenacious and exceptionally dedicated.

"I have no doubt [the allegations] will stand up in any court."

It is, it's so disgusting. We had a male teacher who would always conveniently be doing a check in the girls change rooms when we were changing for PE. And the sexual harrassment from other girls in the change rooms was disgusting too (you got teased if you had big boobs, no boobs, a bra, no bra :headshake). And at my other high school we had a science teacher who was a total creep. One of my brother's friends suspected he was looking down her top (she was big chested) so she put a note down there that read "Busted" and apparently after she had bent over she looked up to find him blushing. But he was such a pig, we were learning about cells and we made a cell out of a balloon and saline water and he walked around with it asking if anyone would like to "feel my sausage" :puke

I used to get teased at school (by other girls in the change room) cause I used to have biggish boobs and big nipples (apparently). I also used to get my bum pinched and breasts grabbed on a regular basis by 2 particular boys. When I told teachers (male or female) I would be told not to worry about it. WTF!!! I was 14!!! And this was a christian school btw. Mass education is totally fucked in some areas

Maths master at my school used to harass me and many others. My father taught at the school and was friends with him so he was even invited to my 18th birthday dinner with my FAMILY. There was a teacher at the boys' school near us who was also notorious for harassing the boys, he did it in class, in front of everyone no less. I don't believe anyone ever took action against him.

Sad truth, sickos usually position themselves in places where they have access to kids. When my kids were in the system, they went into the school enviroment handed with the information that teachers are people too, there are good and bad. They also knew that although the teachers were to be spoken and treated with the respect that others are entitled that the thier words were not gospel, and if they ever felt uncomfortable that they were allowed to go against teachers. That we have to give our children the power not fear teachers, is a sad truth in itself. I think an issue that is not addressed is Children who molest other children. We are compelled to send our kid off to school, but we have to have faith in system that has let down the children over and over again. In my experience the School priniples are more concerned about the schools reputation and tend to brush what ever they want under the mat. Boy I need a soap box!!!!
