I noticed on a waldorf home-ed blog somewhere the parents put a basket of books related to the current season on or next to the seasonal table.
We've been reading Mushroom in the Rain 'cause it's raining here.
I'm struggling to think of other seasonally related books. Suggestions please!!!!!!!!
Thanks :)

Here's an Amazon search for children's books about seasons (although it's a bit clunky): http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?...sons&x=15&y=15
ETA: Library catalogue search? *off to do one myself*

There are some beautiful little books by Susan Whitehead which are designed for this - the current one (Autumn) is Lono and Coco Boato. They include stories, songs, poetry and pics of artwork. http://spiralgarden.com.au/index.php...roducts_id=142
When trying to think of stories to share at the nature table I just brainstorm the season - Autumn is harvest stories (like the giant turnip/taro etc etc), the wind etc. We also have a few cute picture books about the seasons which came from somewhere, sometime... Scholastic often releases books about Seasons etc.
You can also make your own books with seasonal artwork, photos, pics of your seasonal table, stories or poems you find (maybe there's some online you can print?) You could add to it each year as a family.

I was going to say to check out a Steiner site, they always have wonderful, seasonal suggestions. It's a real shame that the Waldorf Homeschoolers site isn't up anymore. They had heaps of great book suggestions.
A little later I'll have a look through the Waldorf Reading List and see what's in there. They have the books listed in ages so I'll see what's good. Hmm....actually, Elsa Bekslow's books are really great.

My 2yo has a boxed set of Guess How Much I Love You in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter books. She loves them but I'm getting heartily sick of Autumn because has taken it into her head that we shouldn't be reading the others until the appropriate season.
We usually have poems and short stories that are seasonal, haven't heard of the basket of books idea before.

We've got a lovely book called Are You Spring? It's really very lovely. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Are-You-Spri.../dp/0789463504
ETA: Oh, I should point out that it is suitable for late winter, too. It's about a bear family in hibernation and the little bear who goes out looking for 'spring'.

I'm doing the basket of seasonal books thing. It surprised me how many I already had, actually :lol I've bought the three Solstice/Equinox titles which are available (does anyone know why there isn't an Autumn one?) but when I did the brainstorming thing I ended up with quite a few we already had which naturally fell into different seasons. So my "off season" ones are now in plastic tubs on the top of the bookshelf in the playroom, along with the seasonal doll and decorations we've accumulated so far. And the current ones are just out on the wall unit so they are handy and obvious when kids want me to read aloud.

"Wild Child (http://www.lynnplourde.com/wildchild.html)" is hands down my favourite autumn book.

We've done the Snow Queen for winter before but it's feeling rather redundant this year :( Summer books seem to be easy to come by but I'm struggling to find some spring ones.

I declared anything involving caterpillars or baby birds as spring books, which filled up our box a bit :lol

Right, very hungry caterpillar it is then.

Thankfully we're about to move to autumn so I've got a few more of those to hand :lol
