:rolleyesYanno, it's ok to homeschool, peeps. :coffee And it doesn't actually say "Girls teased him" so I'm not sure why we need to single out girls as bullies.....?

Teased so much he wanted to die

JYE HOWELL was first bullied in kindergarten, at the age of four.

Constant teasing, shoving and bruising have dogged the 11-year-old since then, forcing his parents to send him to five schools.

His mother, Barbie Howell, has become fed up with the abuse and the inability of Jye's teachers to stop it.

A heart-wrenching conversation with her son last year prompted Mrs Howell to go public with her family's torment.

"That was the day Jye said he'd rather die than go back to school," Mrs Howell said.

Donna Cross, a professor of adolescent health at Edith Cowan University, said aggression could be seen in children as young as two.

"It happens in girls first," she said. "We think girls' social intelligence develops faster."

Jye is one of six Howell children but is their only child who has been bullied.

Statistically, the family is not unusual. It is estimated that one in six Australian children is bullied each week. The Howells lived in Sydney for 20 years before moving to Darwin in 2001. Jye would often come home covered in bruises but was reluctant to speak out.

"Jye has a learning difficulty," Mrs Howell said. "Nobody can pinpoint what's wrong with him. Jye's also got a problem with his legs."

The family moved from Darwin to Ipswich in 2005. Yet the bullying continued, with Jye attending his third primary school in as many years.

Mrs Howell said: "I had one principal say to Jye, 'This doesn't happen to anyone else; it must be you."'

What a stupid article!? If they'd spoken to bully busters they might have gotten some useful quotes ... but they're apparently too successful so schools don't really like them. If they contact bully busters they have to implemtns strategies that aren't all about detention and suspension .... we can't have THAT now can we!!!

oh and I'd challenge the 1 in 6 as well. Every kid gets laughed at for something they can't help, and it happens everyday. And if they're not getting laughed at they're not participating in class to AVOID being laughed at.

the website isn't very informative. I read their ad when they tried to get the school to implement their strategies, it was sold in a very good light. The school put up a couple of posters, had one afternoon of the bully busters talking to the kids and then that was it. A real shame actually!
