We bought the "Eyewitness" series today - each volume was $25 at the ABC shop so we bought both. They seem to be an excellent series for kids, covering a wide range of topics in nature and science. My 4yr old loved the episode about cats!
You can get it online here.. http://www.sanity.com.au/product/product.asp?sku=2120041
for the same price as the ABC shop. Haven't checked the online ABC shop for price however.
Please feel free to add any good resouces you've found to this thread.

We had those Eyewitness ones on video when we were younger, they were brilliant.
Two other videos I used to love watching when I was younger (primary school) were David Attenborough's Life on Earth, and a two-part thing called The Living Planet.
When Malachi's older I want to get all David A's 'Life' ones... I thing the box set is about $200 but OMG I want them!

Oooh ..... just had an ebay glut and bought some David Attenborough - Living Planet, and Blue Planet. Also the Planet Earth set (BBC or ABC i think?). Also got a few National Geographic DVDs also (mostly about volcanoes and dinosaurs - DS1 thing at the moment).
The Eyewitness series sounds great!

Our boys love the Prehistoric Park series - it's about dinosaurs. Really well presented. It's a mini-series done in a documentary style. Nigel Marvin (kind of like Steve Irwin) goes back to various geological time periods through a time portal, and brings back live specimens of extinct animals back to the present day, where they are exhibited in a wildlife park named Prehistoric Park.
For months afterwards Liam was talking about being the first person to invent a time portal. :lol

David Attenborough ANYTHING grabs me. :) The kids adore it too which makes watching them so much fun for me. :lol I'd say things like "First Australians" could also be useful and the wonderful music series by Howard Goodall on great moments in music history, the choral music series, um... anything he's done really. ;) I lurve him. Hmmm maybe these videos are all about me and not the kids or maybe eye candy is a bonus. ;)

I won't say David A because that'd be pointless ;)
What about the Walking with Dinosaurs series? Another ABC show one, only about $30 from memory. and kids are just obsessed with dinosaurs aren't they :lol

Meet the Ancestors was a favourite in our house when I was a teenager :)

Did you enjoy it M? I heard not so great reviews of it sadly! Can you do a review separate to this thread?

Meerkat Manor was well received in this house! Microcosmos sounds worth checking out aswell.
I have also purchased a dvd for DS via eBay, called ''There Goes A Train''. It's a big hit. It's a doco about how different kinds of trains operate. It shows working trains, and the instructor gives tours and points out all the parts. There are other ''There Goes A....'' dvds about other vehicles/modes of transport too.

That would have been great during my DS's train obsession!

We recorded lots of David A from the telly last year, H is in love with him :lol (6DOS moment - his son Richard bought my dad's childhood home in Canberra when my grandparents downsized :lol). Lots of great ideas here :)

I love Michael Palin's travel docos. I've got one from last xmas I still haven't watched. :lol I'm enjoying the River and Life and Ganges series on the ABC atm too and dd was thrilled with the Ganges one last night. She fell asleep partway through so I've saved it for her to look at later.

Anyone used the language learning cartoon series for kids from the BBC: Muzzy? Expensive - gaspingly so: from $199 US dollars per unit (there are 2) but it does teach French, German, Spanish & Italian and is quite cute. Could probably pick them up cheaper on eBay though.
