A TEENAGE pedophile who carried out a brutal sex attack on a brother and sister as they walked home from a Perth primary school has today been jailed for eight years.
District Court judge Christopher Stevenson told Adam Bradley Field, 19, the two children he assaulted - aged seven and 11 years - were unlikely to ever recover from the trauma of witnessing each other being sexually abused.
Field pleaded guilty to 10 charges over the sex attack which began after he lured the two children into the bushes as they walked home from their northern suburbs school about 3pm on November 10 last year.
Crown prosecutor Kate Cook told the court Field deserved no mercy in his sentence as she read horrific details of the attack which has caused the girl serious internal injuries.
The court heard Field had walked to a nearby pub about 10am on the day of the assault and drank four middies and two pints of full strength beer before running out of money and leaving about 2pm.
On his way home he stopped by the primary school, where he had been a student, and locked himself inside a cubicle of a girl’s toilet before being found by a teacher who knew him and escorted him home. The teacher did not immediately call police.
Later, he again left his house to make a phone call when he crossed by the school’s grounds where he unsuccessfully attempted to coax a nine-year-old boy into the bushes.
He then tricked the brother and sister into following him.
Ms Cook told the court Field immediately became aggressive, ripping the underwear of the girl before digitally raping her causing her to bleed profusely.
The elder brother pleaded with the unemployed man to stop but he was punched three times in the face, pushed to the ground and told to ``shut up’’, she said.
The court heard over the next hour Field kissed and touched both children and forced the boy to perform sexual acts on him. At the end of the attack he ran off with the girl’s torn underwear.
Detectives arrested him the next day at his nearby home where they had found Field had shaved his head, washed his clothes and placed the underwear under his bed.
The court heard Field told police during an interview that he had now had no other option except death before saying ''yeah, I am a pedophile’’.
Ms Cook said the crimes were predatory, callous and had corrupted the innocent children in an assault made worse because the two siblings witnessed each other being attacked.
``It is clear the older child has a misplaced, but understandable, feeling of shame for not being able to protect his little sister,’’ she told the court.
A bowed over Field wiped away tears as his lawyer, Philip Urquhart, told the court his client could not excuse his behaviour, was genuinely remorseful and had since been suicidal over his actions.
Mr Urquhart said he had been sexually abused at the age of eight by an older man, had been diagnosed with ADHD and had a serious problem with alcohol which included drinking a carton of beer a day.
He said his client had limited recollection of the attack because he was drunk.
``He is genuinely wracked with guilt,’’ Mr Urquhart told the court.
``He told me he wants pills to make him forget but immediately says that he knows the children will remember.
``He is disgusted and revolted with what he has done.’’
Judge Stevenson said while Field's youth was a strong factor in sentencing, the crimes were serious and a lengthy jail term was appropriate.
He fixed a total term of eight years jail for eight charges, which included four of sexual penetration of a child aged under 13 years, two of indecent dealing and two of deprivation of liberty.
He also jailed Field to a further one year behind bars for an earlier assault of a taxi driver.
Field will be eligible for parole in November 2015.
The parents of the children were in court today but did not comment.
