Kira is going through a phase atm where if she has to wash her hands she ends up overflowing the sink (her toys need a bath) and while I am mightily sick of the water everywhere my main concern is the wastage (esp given we are on a daily quota here, but also mainly because we are drought conscious!). I don't like to lecture her about it, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any online or book resources which either are interactive, or explain the drought and the connection between the water in the taps and the water in the environment in a fun way? She is 4.5 so nothing too wordy, or websites that are too complex or require too much independent reading. Anyone know of anything?

SA water had an interactive game about saving water on their website but it was a bit boring.. still might capture her attention I guess.

When Spikee goes through those stages we run a mini bath and leave it there all day. Then he can hop in and out of it as many times as he wants. Would that work in the sink? Otherwise you could just be ruthless and remove the plug :lol

We don't have anything like that and I don't want to buy something extra just for that. If I remove the plug she will just let it run. Gah.

I found a couple of other things, unfortunately the better ones I lost gah:

http://www.waterwatch.org.au/publications/2007conference/pubs/brook.pdf (this is a doc on how they did a presentation at kindys, I thought it was interesting as something you could set up more informally at home).

Here's the first one I found

http://www.epa.gov/kids/water.htm (the water cycle one)
http://kids.earth.nasa.gov/droplet.html (for readers or you would have to read over their shoulder LOL)

what about giving her a daily bucket of water. Once its gone, its gone sort of thing...

my dd (22 months) has just discovered how much fun it is to stand at the sink and wash hands...she keeps pushing her little chair up to the bathroom door saying "diyekty dieeekety? once she is washing her hands she keeps asking for the tap to be turned on....
