Stylish is starting to take an interest in life again! She has been asking questions again, she doesn't fear discussing things that involve her expressing her own opinions - she is even FORING HER OWN OPINIONS on things :shock

We're getting along sooo much better since she left prison, it's bloody brilliant!

It's taken 7 months but OMG we're finally making in roads!

If you took YOUR child out of prison how long did it take for them to find LIFE appealing again? How long has it been? What are you noticing now they're not institutionalised?

How wonderful :D It took quite a while for B to deschool too. It's so much better when they have, though ;)

Oh yeah! For all of us :lol

Something I remembered when I was reading my blog last night was that about two weeks out of prison I implemented (under much protest) NON black-leggings week. It's turned into NON black-leggings 6.5 months :yay She's way more relaxed about clothes (for someone her age :rofl)

Gabe is always a balance to get him on a nice flow - anything can upset it, it took about a week of homeschooling to get him back to me - which is why I always thought the school holidays were too short. My neighbours were always saying YAY school is back and BOO to holidays - I was the opposite. Actually I may have talked one of my neighbours into homeschooling her sons. Having an open mind is essential :)
So pleased it is working for you Heket - I don't think I could pay Gabe to go back to school.

Nope, there's nothing that could convince Stylish to go back either.

I was exactly the same with school holidays, I always heaved a sigh of relief when they were starting and HATED when they went back. All that stupid shit you have to do :lol I always thought people were weird about holidays, they're HOLIDAYS! Shouldn't you enjoy them :shrug

Last night Stylish went into the kitchen and announced her desire to bake something. She thought biscuits might be nice, but when I explained the difference between biscuits and cake batter she decided to make a cake. Using NO RECIPE she added ingredients and made a bloody good cake! She used to HATE COOKING!!! ther'es pics up on the blog if you're interested.

Aw hooray Heket, that's so wonderful! It's amazing the long-term impact school can have on a child, I'm surprised how long it takes them to come back into themselves.

You must be so thrilled with how she's coming along Heket. What a change from a year ago.

Such a change! I can't believe it tbh. She's so proud of her cake she has frozen some of it to take over to her Aunt's house tomorrow.

And the maths? OMG! She is voluntarily sitting at the table doing maths atm ... AMAZING!

Woohoo! That is so cool!

J has taken an interest in tidying!!! I am loving it :D

I bet :lol

I just asked Stylish to put the clean dishes away and SHE DID IT WITHOUT WHINGING :eager

That's so cool, Heket :D

Right now, I wish B would take an interest in anything other than watching anime on Youtube (when she's not off sailing or riding her horse, anyway). I'm sure she will tire of it eventually :runcry

~*heket*~
14-04-2009, 08:37 PM
oh I hear you :blueroll Need I mention HORSE ISLE? My sil downloaded a free programme that limits the time spent on a game website, I said that if Stylish couldn't regulate her own puter time sensibly then I would have to do that coz "it rots your brain" ;) She's trying to set some better limits now coz she knows her cousins are allowed on the puter for about half an hour a day :rofl

Beatrice

We have a timer which regulates how much time she can spend on the internet, but she says (reasonably enough) that if she has a timer then I should too :lol Bloody ethics :doh

~*heket*~
14-04-2009, 08:55 PM
My argument to that is that when Stylish can get all the things done that she needs to do then the time restriction won't apply anymore :lol

Beatrice
14-04-2009, 09:27 PM
Yeah, well I'd still need the timer under those rules too :lol

~*heket*~
14-04-2009, 09:40 PM
:rofl make the TO DO list shorter!

Beatrice

Can I cross "paying attention to my children" off it? :uhh Guess not :lol

Can you give her access to anime in different ways? Would she be interested in books? I know Borders in the city has a good selection, and Impact Comics is still up above the city interchange I believe, they might be able to recommend some for her.

We've tried, but she's not as interested in manga. Although she's started trying to draw it, so I've found her one of those How-to-Draw books to help give her some technique.

I think she mostly just wants to relax because she does *heaps*, it's just she doesn't do any of it at home :lol And also she'd rather have the headphones on or shut herself in her room so she doesn't have to listen to K and H crashing and yelling. Can't really blame her on that either :blueroll

~*heket*~

Nope, I see your point :lol

Well, we must hope B gets sick of it soon then!

Sounds like a good quiet time for her then :)

She's been really easy going the last little while. And we've even managed to agree on clothes!

That is so great Heket.
I am seeing some things like this already and April has only been 'out' for 2 weeks. Luckily she is only 6 and at the start of grade 1. I have also seen spontaneous tidying happening here! Wow. And less 'humphing' at being asked to do things. It's wonderful isn't it. :)

Well after 4 months of only wanting to watch Little Mermaid over and over and over and over and over :bang, Tyler has decided there are many more thing more interesting than TV (well the disc kinda doesn't play now- too scratched :blueroll). He's really into dinosaur puzzles (over and over and over again :rofl)

BUT, my jaw dropped the other week when he decided he wanted to do some colouring (colouring book .... yep, dinosaurs!). This is a first.

He's soooo not been interested in doing colouring/ drawing etc.. ever! (being made to do stuff at daycare/preschool must of been horrible for him :(

He's been colouring every day now - even taking the book to colour on the t.rain or at the bus stop. Okay, its all block colours (i.e: everything coloured blue - but its each INDIVIDUAL thing coloured blue! :lol) So chuffed!

Isn't it amazing? Most of the changes are little, but when you combine them it's all a bit miraculous isn't it :eager

Stylish has finally started op shopping with a vengeance :eager she hasn't dragged me into a kmart in yonks WOOT! And she is thinking - not too hard ;) - about selling her littlest pet shop toys on a garage sale :jawdrop
