I've been completely inspired by The Creative Family, and realised I was missing a cool creative op for Kira. She likes to run around with the camera occasionally and take photos of whatever she sees. She actually takes some pretty arty shots, but I've not really thought of showing her the photos on the computer and I just go through and delete the "bad" ones and nothing happens with the other ones (sometimes i'll put them on the blog, but rarely).

Silly!

So today i'm going to set her up with her own photos folder, and she can go through and pick her faves. Then we'll discuss what she wants to do with them, if she wants to learn how to edit them or if she wants to print them as is. And then she can put them in her own special album and do whatever she wants with them.

We must do that too. We got a new camera so the old one is now officially Stylish's. Unfortunately it doesn't link up to the good computer for editing purposes, but photo bucket has some capacity for that I think. Oh! And I suppose I could send them to photo bucket and then save them on the good puter too .... no, too technical for me :lol

So she learned how to jig with the colour settings, and how to crop. Will upload some of her photos later.

My 3 yr old loves taking photos. DH and I have photographic backgrounds. We have been letting him have time with our camera, while I cross my fingers it comes back in one piece. We are thinking of getting him his own soon. I love the perspective from which he views the world. I have also created a folder for his photos on the HD and was wondering what else to do with them. I could create a blog, but that would take up a lot of the time I have for my own. Maybe I could print out his favourites and start a photo album for him.

Some of his photos are on my blog, if you want to see them. Under the Aquarium post not far back.

Hey great ideas! Tyler loves using the camera nd we have loads of his "arty" photos, just not sure what to do with them.
I'm sure he'd love to manipulate/ edit them.
An album, or folder sounds like a great idea.
Also I've been thinking of book covers, tranfers for tshirts/ calico bags (a la Creative Family book!) and poster collages .

We bought T a cheap camera for giftmas, but it was rubbish and quite hard to use (the button was really hard to depress), so we've got him decent "real" camera for his birthday. Just goes to show that quality equipment/ materials can make a huge difference in persuing interests/ learning opportunities.

Cameras are a great gift for kids. We bought the girls ones for Christmas when they were around 7 and 9...Got a couple of little kodak ones for about $145. 4 1/2 years later, they're still going strong and the girls use them all the time. My youngest is really talented, just has a natural flair...some of her horse jumping photos are amazing...gets them at the perfect time. For Christmas we bought her the cheaper photoshop and then for her 11th b'day , just gone, we bought her a computer drawing tablet...the skills they can teach themselves is fantastic. Even without this, the beauty of digital cameras is they can take limitless photos, so they can be as creative as they like..even do collages, calenders for pressies for grandparents on the computer, crop and blow up, let them print it out then cartoonise it etc. It also tends to get them really looking at things , altho' this isn't usually a problem with young ones ;-)
